The Gleaner L3 combine was introduced in 1969 as a replacement for earlier Gleaner models and remained in production until 1978. It was equipped with an Allis-Chalmers 301 cubic inch, inline six-cylinder diesel engine producing around 165 horsepower. Threshing was accomplished via a conventional cylinder system, featuring a 42-inch wide cylinder and a large separation area that made it very good at harvesting wheat. The grain tank held approximately 170 bushels, and the unloading auger could empty it at a rate of around 50 bushels per minute. Header widths ranged from 13 to 24 feet. Chopper and spreader options were available to manage residue. The cab was designed with operator comfort in mind, offering a relatively quiet environment compared to older machines. The L3 was particularly well-suited for harvesting wheat, soybeans and corn.
