John Deere 3040 Tractor Parts

The John Deere 3040 was introduced in 1979 as part of the '40 Series' tractors, replacing earlier models and offering improved features and performance. Production continued through 1982. The heart of the 3040 is the John Deere 4.239D diesel engine, a 239 cubic inch (3.9L) inline four-cylinder engine producing around 75 engine horsepower. This reliable diesel powerplant provided ample torque for pulling implements and powering PTO-driven equipment. It featured a naturally aspirated design and direct fuel injection. Transmission options included a standard Syncro Range transmission offering 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds, or an optional PowrQuad transmission providing 16 forward and 8 reverse speeds. The independent PTO delivered approximately 65 horsepower at 540 RPM, or an optional 1000 RPM. The open-center hydraulic system provided around 19.8 GPM of flow to power implements, with one or two remote valves available. The 3-point hitch was a Category II, offering a lift capacity of approximately 4,800 lbs. The John Deere 3040 found common application in row crop farming, hay production, livestock operations, and general tillage work. Compared to smaller models in the lineup, the 3040 offered increased horsepower and hydraulic capacity, making it suitable for larger implements and more demanding tasks. It stood out for its comfortable cab, relatively quiet operation, and dependable performance.
