The Gleaner M2 was a workhorse in fields across the United States and beyond, produced from 1969 until 1992. Early models featured a variety of engine options, with later models commonly using an Allis-Chalmers 301 cubic inch, or 301T turbocharged diesel engine rated up to 155 horsepower. It utilizes a conventional threshing system with a 50-inch wide cylinder. Grain tank capacity varies slightly by year but generally holds around 180 bushels. The unloading auger speed is approximately 60 bushels per minute. Available header widths ranged from 13 feet up to 30 feet, accommodating various field sizes and crop types. It was often equipped with a straw chopper or spreader, depending on the customer's needs. The cab provided basic operator comfort and controls. The M2 excelled at harvesting a variety of crops, including wheat, soybeans, and corn, making it a versatile machine for many farms. The 301T was rated at 145 hp at 2400 rpms. The M2 was upgraded with a larger 360 cubic inch allis chalmers engine in 1978.
