Case IH 986 Tractor Parts

The Case IH 986 was part of the International Harvester '86 Series, introduced in 1976 as a replacement for earlier models. Production ran through 1981. The 986 features an International Harvester D-358 diesel engine, a 358 cubic inch (5.9L) inline six-cylinder powerplant producing approximately 93 horsepower. It’s a direct injection engine known for its torque and fuel efficiency. Transmission options included a gear-drive transmission with either 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds, or an optional 16 forward and 8 reverse speed Torque Amplifier (TA) transmission for on-the-go shifting. The PTO delivers around 80 horsepower, with a standard 540 RPM PTO and an optional 1000 RPM PTO available. The hydraulic system has a capacity of approximately 16 GPM, powering two or three remote valves for implements. The 3-point hitch is a Category II, providing a lift capacity of around 5,500 lbs. The 986 was widely used for row crop operations, hay baling, livestock feeding, and various tillage tasks. It stood out in the lineup for its balance of power, size, and features, offering a step up in performance from smaller models while remaining more compact and maneuverable than larger machines.
