Introduced in 1971, the Case IH 574 replaced earlier models and quickly gained a reputation for dependability. Engine options included an International Harvester 236 cubic inch diesel engine, producing approximately 54 horsepower, or a gasoline engine of similar displacement and horsepower. The transmission was typically a gear-driven, 8-speed forward and 2-speed reverse transmission, providing a good range of speeds for different applications. The independent PTO delivered around 48 horsepower at 540 RPM, suitable for operating implements like mowers, balers, and rotary cutters. The hydraulic system had a capacity of around 9 gallons per minute, powering the 3-point hitch, which was a Category I or II, depending on the hitch configuration, with a lift capacity of approximately 2,800 lbs. Common uses included row crop operations, hay production, livestock feeding, and light tillage.
